“Does it hurt?” is the second most common question about laser tattoo removal, right after how much the treatment costs. Pain is a top concern for patients, and at The Face & Body Place, your comfort and satisfaction is definitely our highest priority.
How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
Dr. Kimberly Finder is proud that The Face & Body Place was the first clinic in all of San Antonio to bring PicoSure™ laser technology to our patients. With ultra-short (one-trillionth of a second in length) energy pulses, PicoSure™ sends a shockwave through the tattoo, shattering the ink into tiny, smaller-than-dust particles the body can easily absorb and filter away through the natural metabolic system. Dr. Finder is not easily seduced by medical technology that professes to be revolutionary, so you know that if she uses technology such as the PicoSure™ laser for tattoo removal, it truly offers effective, remarkable results as seen in our photo gallery.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Tattoos have become quite a common way for people to express themselves, create a meaningful link to memories, philosophies, or loved ones. Because tattoos have risen in popularity, so too has the regret over tattoos that have gone wrong or those that have changed in meaning. If you have a tattoo or a portion of one you no longer want, you may be an ideal candidate for tattoo removal with PicoSure™ tattoo removal technology.
How Much Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?
Patient tolerance for pain varies from person to person, but there is a bit of pain that comes with laser tattoo removal. However, the notion that removal hurts worse than receiving the tattoo is no longer true. Lasers have improved significantly with the advancement of time and technology, so while the treatment may be painful—patients equate the sensation of the laser pulses to snapping a rubber band against the skin—it’s bearable. We also soothe our patients’ skin with the topical anesthetic cream, so your removal treatments may be no worse than what you endured when you had the tattoo applied.
Laser Tattoo Removal Consultations Available
Pain also depends on the size of the tattoo treatment area, and its location on the body. For places such as arms or shoulders, the pain may not be as difficult to bear as somewhere more sensitive, like around the ribs or neck. Our technicians are well trained in the use of the PicoSure™ laser, so the need to linger over parts of the tattoo are minimized with the sure speed and grace of our movements with the laser energy tool. Sessions average only 5 to 15 minutes.
Results and Downtime
The type of tattoo, age of the ink, and variety of colors determine the number of treatment sessions you’ll require to remove the unwanted ink. Most are removed within 2-6 sessions, with visible fading after the first treatment. To avoid irritating the area and encourage healing, Dr. Finder recommends heavy physical activity be reduced for 24-48 hours post-treatment, but light work and activity is not limited.
Awesome place . .. highly recommend the Pico Tattoo procedures for removing tattoos ⚓
