How Often Should I Get a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels rose rapidly in popularity in the 90s, and over the years have evolved into customizable solutions for a variety of skin concerns. If your skin is tired, wrinkling or your complexion is dull and could use a boost, a chemical peel at The Face & Body Place could be just your solution for bright, clear skin that shines.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

Chemical peels are the perfect non-invasive treatment for skin plagued by acne, fine lines and wrinkles, dry skin, uneven tone and texture, and sun damage or pigmentation concerns. They exfoliate away the outer layer of the epidermis and stimulate the healing response, rejuvenating skin’s clarity and softness. Deeper peels penetrate further to correct more serious skin concerns. The Face & Body Place’s trained professionals will advise each patient of which type and depth of chemical peel will accomplish their particular skin rejuvenation goals, so your treatment is tailored to you.

The most common natural acids in the chemical peels at The Face & Body Place are alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs are milder for more surface treatment and gentle exfoliation that freshens the skin. These types of peels are perfect for big celebration preparation, such as weddings.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Chemical peel candidates are patients who exhibit signs of uneven skin tone or texture, sun damage, wrinkles, or acne. The level of peel is determined by your unique skin conditions as assessed during your comprehensive consultation.

What is the Treatment Like?

Your chemical peel is done in The Face & Body Place’s spa atmosphere and begins with a thorough cleansing of your face. Then, the AHA is applied, which may tingle or mildly sting while the acid goes to work. After the correct amount of time, a neutralizing solution is used to halt the acid and remove it from your skin. Finally, you may receive cooling compresses or protective creams to soothe your treated skin.

Is There Any Downtime?

Chemical peels should be performed by a cosmetic professional to avoid unnecessary risks. After your treatment, your skin will feel sensitive, tight, and possibly swollen. For deeper peels, you may experience skin flaking and peeling. These typically resolve in a few days.

What Are the Results?

Improved skin clarity and texture, diminished lines and wrinkles, and radiance are the results you can expect. Repeated treatments can and will continue to improve your skin’s condition over the long-term, but should be done judiciously with the time between treatments for healing. For lighter peels, you may schedule them once a month. For deeper peels, a rule of thumb is every 3-6 months. Your skin care professional will advise you on the best timeframe for your unique skincare needs and proper care of your skin and the healing process.
