Thermitight Versus Kybella

Unless you’re lucky enough to age ridiculously gracefully like Angelina Jolie, there’s probably at least a few things you’d like to improve about your appearance. If you’ve been noticing a little extra fat around your face and chin, you’re not alone. Struggling with a double chin, droopy neck or loose skin is common, but it can certainly affect your appearance and confidence. If you find yourself dreading photos it might be time to evaluate your options.

Two popular procedures offered at The Face and Body Place are Kybella and ThermiTight. Both are used to improve the jawline, yet each offers unique benefits and drawbacks.

This post will help break down some of the advantages and disadvantages of each procedure and help make it easier for you to determine which would be the best fit for you and your lifestyle.

Kybella is an FDA-approved, non-surgical procedure. A series of injections placed below the chin destroys the fat cells there, making them unable to store or accumulate fat. This contours the appearance of the neck and chin, making it less full and removing the appearance of a double chin. Results are noticeable after two or four sessions, and no more than six sessions are recommended, and results are permanent. These generally occur monthly, and there can be some temporary swelling at the injection site, but you can return to work immediately.

Kybella can be an excellent choice for patients struggling with persistent fat below the chin, and can yield excellent results. However, it does not tighten the skin while removing fat. The injections are also monthly, which can take time out of your schedule. Kybella is, however, long lasting and non-invasive.

ThermiTight, by contrast, is a minimally invasive procedure that  uses targeted heat to tighten wrinkled, sagging skin around the jawline. A small amount of anesthetic is injected, and then a tiny probe is inserted under the skin. Under the careful attention of a surgeon, the probe heats the surrounding skin. The entire process usually takes less than an hour, and normal activity can be resumed the next day. Results are visible instantly and improve over the next six to 12 months and can last up to five years.

ThermiTight offers excellent skin tightening and toning capabilities, making it the better choice for those dealing with excess skin or signs of aging. However, it does not have the same ability to melt away fat and results can be expected to last for three to five years. It’s a quick procedure with minimal downtime and is an excellent touch-up procedure for those who have previously had a facelift.

Which is right for you?

While we offer both services at The Face and Body Place, the answer to this question will truly depend on your goals, your current skin conditions, and your lifestyle. What works best for one client may not be in the best interest of another, and every face and body responds differently to each procedure. That being said, the best way to determine what is the best fit for your specific needs would be to schedule a consultation with Dr. Finder to go over both procedures, talk through the options, and make an informed decision about which would fit best.
